During the 2nd quarter, 5th grade students will work on Dividing Whole Numbers and Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Decimals. Students will model, read, write, compare, add and subtract decimals. They will apply their understanding of models for decimals, decimal notation, and properties of operations to add and subtract decimals to hundredths. They will develop fluency in these computations and make reasonable estimates of their results. Students will use the relationship between decimals and fractions to understand and explain why the procedures for multiplying and dividing decimals makes sense. They will compute products and quotients of decimals to the hundredths efficiently and accurately. Multiple step word problems will also be an area of focus. Students who have their multiplication and division facts mastered will definitely be at an advantage. Please continue to practice these facts daily in an effort to master them. It will be a great benefit to their progress.
